Witcher 1 Dice Poker Hands
I don't know of any mods that change how dice poker WORKS in TW2 - though that may change once the REDkit comes out- but there's a mod on the Witcher Nexus that will make the dice easier to read by replacing the new dice with the dice from TW1. Dice poker in The Witcher: Enhanced Edition So I've been playing The Witcher 1 on pc in these trying times. It's generally been a great experience (if you're able to accept that this game is old and made by a bunch of guys who didn't know how to make a game) with a great story and most of all an amazing atmosphere and 'feel'. Dice poker board Dice poker is an addictive game played throughout the world of The Witcher, and it is very popular in Temeria. If you are good enough, it is a great way of making money. After finding a starter box of dice, Geralt is given the quest A Game of Dice. DEFAULT for Dice Poker is: 3 rounds, low bets, Unfair AI (the farther you progress, the more the odds are stacked against you rolling good combos and the more the AI will roll good combos). Therefor, dice poker must be edited to make it more fair. Garyoak99 10 years ago #1 Yes, I've heard nasty stories about how lucky the AI can get in this game. So, any tips, tactics or strategies on how to increase your chances of winning Dice Poker against the Professionals, Sharpers or even King Foltest?

Dice Poker: The Sharper is an optional sub-quest of A Game of Dice. It is spawned once Geralt has beaten four professional players. The stakes are higher still, but the winnings are nothing to sneeze at.
- 4Phases
Walkthrough[edit edit source]
Beat the sharpers one by one as you meet them during your journey. The quest ends when you have beaten three sharpers. You can then look forward to playing a legendary player, maybe even the king! The spawns the Dice Poker: The Legend quest.
It is not actually necessary to complete this quest to do Dice Poker: The Legend. It is just nice for continuity.
Notes[edit edit source]
- Either Zoltan or Dandelion can tell Geralt about sharpers.
- Asking Koster for a game in the Gamblers' den in Chapter III without having beaten four professionals initiates this quest but advancing it only becomes possible after beating the professionals.
- You must only beat three out of the four sharpers you encounter, so your journal entries may not include all the entries you see below, nor will the phases you do see necessarily be in the same order as shown below.
- You can find Chireadan during the daytime near the Elven cave on the Lakeside. At night he is inside the cave, sleeping, but does not seem to mind being roused for a quick game of dice.
- Dandelion is in permanent residence at the Country Inn for the duration of Chapter IV.
Sharpers[edit edit source]
Phases[edit edit source]
Note: The 100 XP increments listed below are only earned for the first three players, whichever three Geralt plays and wins against first. The rest are listed for information purposes.
Too Good for Me[edit edit source]
Though I have some experience, I won't be allowed to play at some tables before I become a professional. I won't be allowed to join closed games until I become a professional poker player.
Sharpers[edit edit source]
I'm a professional poker player and I can now join closed games. We shall see how good those sharpers really are. As a professional I can play real sharpers now.
Entering the Gambling Den[edit edit source]
As a professional poker player I'll be able to enter any gambling den in Vizima. And only the best play there. I can play poker in gambling dens now.
The Gambling Den[edit edit source]
I beat the best sharper in Vizima. That means something. I wonder if there are any better players. I beat a sharper. I need another opponent. (400 XP)
The Elven Sharper[edit edit source]
The elf Chireadan is one of the few members of the elder race to appreciate poker. He's had centuries to perfect his technique, so he may prove a tough opponent. I can play Chireadan.
Chireadan[edit edit source]
Years of training failed to protect the elf from defeat. I beat Chireadan hands down and need another opponent. I beat Chireadan and need another opponent. (400 XP)
The Ghost[edit edit source]
One's passion for poker can even overcome death, preventing some from leaving this world. Should I play a dead man? Intriguing. I can play poker with the gambling ghost.
The Ghost[edit edit source]
I played the ghost and won. He wasn't half bad for a dead man. I wonder if there are any better than him. I beat the gambling ghost. I can't wait to find another sharp. (400 XP)
Dandelion[edit edit source]
Still waters run deep. Dandelion brags about being one of the best players under the sun. Let's see how wrong he is. I can play Dandelion.
Dandelion[edit edit source]
Dandelion — undoubtedly a better poet than a poker player. But the truth be told, he's an outstanding poet and not bad at dice poker either. I won nonetheless and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll find anyone better. I beat Dandelion. I need another opponent. (400 XP)
The Sharper[edit edit source]
I defeated three legendary sharpers. If they couldn't beat me, no one can. I proved I can outplay most sharpers. (1500 XP)

When Geralt first meets Zoltan, who is being harassed by some racists, he must choose whether or not to help him. Regardless of that choice, the racists wind up dead and it is on their corpses that Geralt finds his first dice boxes. Thus begins the Dice poker quest, which is really four optional poker sub-quests, Dice Poker: The Novice being the first of those four.
This quest can also be triggered at the beginning of Chapter II, by speaking with the Elven convict in the dungeon, if it was not triggered in Chapter I.
- 4Phases
Walkthrough[edit edit source]
In this quest, Zoltan teaches the witcher the basics of the game and gives him a little background information about how it became so widespread as a pass-time given that the church frowns on the game, not to mention that it is of dwarven invention. The dwarf also lets our hero in on a little secret, you can earn some easy cash playing poker. But first things first.
Our hero needs to find his feet, so Zoltan recommends a few games with the local novice players. He suggests three that Geralt might try: Mikul, Haren Brogg and Odo. So off goes the witcher, in search of some not too expensive practice rounds. Once he has played all three (or in some cases a little later when he has played three novice players — there are more), he reports back to Zoltan who tells him he can start playing for real money: against professional players.
Notes[edit edit source]
- You only have to beat three out of a possible seven novice players, so your journal entries may not include all the entries you see below, nor will the phases you do see necessarily be in the same order as seen here.
- If you miss getting this quest from Zoltan in Chapter I, you can still get it from the elven convict in Chapter II in the dungeon.

Note: The 100 XP increments listed below are only earned for the first four players, whichever four Geralt plays and wins against first. The rest are listed for information purposes.
Learning the Basics[edit edit source]
I learned the basics of dice poker. Apparently, you can make good money playing if you can find the right opponents. Zoltan says I need to win three or four times to shed my reputation as a novice. Vaska was quite good for her age. I'm itching to play somebody else. I beat Vaska. I should look for other opponents. (100 XP)
The Gardener Plays Poker[edit edit source]
The gardener loves gambling as much as any other veteran does. I'm curious of the tricks he learned as a mercenary. I can always play poker with the gardener.
The Gardener[edit edit source]
The old veteran plays like the devil himself, but I still won. I'm getting really good at this game. Time to look for other opponents. I beat the gardener. I should look for other opponents. (100 XP)
